Piracy Security in Entertainment Buildings

There is a new development taking place in the field of piracy security to protect music artists and producers, and movie makers from illegal recording of music and movies. The advent of internet technology introduced the phenomenon that rocked the world – the ability for anyone with a computer to hit the “download” button on pirated music and movie websites and access an astonishing array of songs and movies for free.

Since then, regulations have been put in place in an attempt to control the rampant downloading of materials without paying for them, because it has cost the entertainment industry millions of dollars in lost revenues. A few regulations have really not had the impact hoped for by the entertainment moguls, because technology has easily accommodated the demand for movie and movie pirating devices.

Movie and Music Bootlegging
A visit to You Tube’s ubiquitous website or thousands of personal “blogs” reveals the nature of the current trend in entertainment piracy. Using small, hand held recording devices such as cell phones, digital camera, digital video recorders or mini-camcorders, people with only a minimal amount of technical expertise can easily record segments of, or entire motion pictures , live shows or music concerts.

These tiny recording devices produce amazingly high quality image and sound results, which them can be edited and uploaded to the internet with the use of (free) computer programs. And, to rub a little salt in the wounds of the “ripped off” entertainers, the instructions can be obtained through a simple Google search.

Piracy Security Strategies
Companies that own buildings where various types of entertainment are hosted have begun to take measures to enforce anti-piracy strategies. Movie theatres, concert halls and private clubs use security personnel and anti-piracy devices to discourage the free-for-all trend in illegal recording. Security officers are trained to spot patrons using recording devices and take legal action to retrieve the pirated materials.

Technology has also caught up with the need to protect the entertainment industry with the use of electronic piracy security devices. These small gadgets can detect camcorders and pinhole cameras by shooting undetectable pulses of light back at the audience that return an incriminating reflection off the lenses of the recording devices.

The gadget then takes a snapshot of its own with embedded information that can be later used as evidence. The piracy security device then triggers an alarm system to alert the security personnel and allows them to flush out the offending patron. The system is not perfect, but as the bugs are worked out, the entertainment industry has a better chance of being protected from theft and loss of revenue.
